Feeling hot, hot, hot

This week's made-it roulette is brought to us by my chest infection and fever that led to some veeerrryy weird dreams last night and a quiet day at home from work today.

Instead of the usual - hit-the-'made-it'-banner-and-window-shop I thought I'd search for the term 'hot' ... seems it's teemed with the term 'pink' .. here are my finds. Quite lovely, don't you agree?

Green thumb

My dad and I are off to a mini-workshop today about growing herbs and gardens in small spaces - perfect for a small backyard or balcony. I can't wait to see if they have any tips to stop rogue possums decimating basil and chilli plants, as well as my succulents. Seems the marsupials 'round these parts have quite a refined palate! On that note, I thought I'd share my leafy green finds from made-it this week. Yum.

Later this afternoon I think I might finish my new holdall handbags. Here's a progress shot of pockets and top bag band for three new bags. On the right is an example of a 'finished product'. These will soon feature on my made-it and etsy shops, as well as the upcoming BrisStyle markets.

my shopping expedition

Just back from a whirlwind few days in Melbourne. My serendipitous adventures continued, with inspiring exhibitions, yummy cafes and photogenic graffiti all making an appearance.

I had long lunches / dinners with old friends and made a few new ones too.... that might have had something to do with the time I spent in a couple of shops ... including the cat's meow (off (or should I say below?) Degraves St), and tessuti (at 45 Flinders Lane).

Whilst holidays are fun (and this one was definitely not long enough!), it's always nice to return home. And that's been my made-it-window-shopping inspiration for tonight. Clockwise from top left, we have Mulberry Muse,  A little bird told me.., Lemon Tree Lane, and Sweet William.

Right - I'm jetlagged so I'm off to bed. Night night. x

My afternoon adventure...

I love an afternoon of surprises - one that unfolds with serendipitous adventures and unexpected turns. I had a few hours up my sleeve before I was to see a play, so I thought I'd pop in to the GOMA to see Douglas Kirkland's exhibition.

I was environmentally friendly and caught the bus into town and was planning on a boring switching in at KGS for another bus to the Cultural Centre, but ding - back door, driver! - I popped off at North Quay and took a leisurely stroll over the (polarising) Kurilpa Bridge. I had a perfect view of what's turned/turning out to be a precinct of which Brisbane can be proud- and what a great, rainy week-end destination.

The exhibition did not disappoint, with candid photos of famous faces (Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Judy Garland, Audrey Hepburn, Andy Warhol), movie sets (Moulin Rouge, Australia, The Sound of Music), video clip sets (the making Thriller... hee hee), and a set from a few weeks he spent with Coco Chanel - so many favourites.

Taking a short cut through the State Library I noticed that 'The Lindsays: artists, writers and publishers' exhibition was up in one of the upstairs nooks of the SLQ. I also had a wander in to 'Windwells' for a little channelling and divining and 'Finely Bound' and learnt more about bookbinding techniques than I knew there was to know.

My short cut continued through the 'old' part of the gallery and my heart soared when I saw that the Hans Heysen exhbition was on. My mum did a walk along (a part of) the Heysen trail last year and, inspired by her photos and with recent articles I'd read have me planning my trip down there next year. These paintings have just made me wish May 2011 would come a whole lot quicker.

 Droving into the light

Then I went to see my play, which was a bit of an anti-climax.
